Another Prince George’s County councilmember puts in name for County Executive seat

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Another candidate is throwing their hat in the ring for Prince George’s County’s top office.

At-large Councilmember Calvin Hawkins officially made his announcement that he is running for County Executive.

During Wednesday’s press conference, multiple local and state leaders spoke highly of Hawkins’ work on the county council and how they are confident he will bring those same actions to the County Executive seat.

Hawkins said that if he’s elected, addressing economic development, education and public safety would be his top priorities on day one.

“Over the next 93 days, that’s all we have, you will hear the other candidates talk about their background and their plan,” Hawkins said. “But, what you won’t hear is a proven record of serving the grassroots of our community.”


The primary date for the special election will be held on March 4, 2025, and the special general election will be on May 27, 2025.

Current County Executive Angela Alsobrooks is heading to the United States Senate in January.
