As we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on his historic #MLK Day, I reflect on how grateful that I was to receive an invitation to attend the National Action Network’s Martin Luther King Day Breakfast hosted by the Rev. Al Sharpton at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C.
To be in the room, to meet and hear from elected officials and dignitaries; Martin Luther King, III, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic Leader, Congressman Jasmine Crockett, Congressman Al Green, Governor Martin O’Malley, Dr. Barbara Williams-Skinner, to name a few, was inspiring!
We stood with respect to watch as awards were presented to deserving leaders who are impacting our communities. I was so joyful to see Senator Angela Alsobrooks, my Senator from Maryland listed as an awardee.
It was truly a humbling experience from my conversation with Rev. Sharpton to the surprise visit from our Vice President Kamala Harris, her speech uplifted us and to meet her motivated me to push harder!
Dr. King, I hope you are proud of us, your legacy of leaders who are using our voices for impact just as you showed us. We will continue to walk and speak on your behalf to realize the DREAM!
